What are the Rules and Regulations for Computing at CSE?

Up to Table of Contents

What rules and regulations must users abide by while using CSE resources?

Applicable Laws

All users are required to abide by all laws that apply to people located in Davis, California, USA. The exact specification of those laws is outside the scope of this document. Please consult a lawyer for details on what laws are applicable at any given time.

University of California Policies

All users are required to abide by all rules and regulations put in place by the Board of Regents of the University of California. These rules are outlined on UCOP's website.

UC Davis Policies

All users are required to abide by all rules and regulations specified in the UC Davis Policy and Procedure Manual.

CSE Policies

This section describes all CSE-mandated, documented policies regarding computing at CSE. All policies are subject to change at any time.

Cluster Computing

This section describes CSE policies for using CSE-managed cluster resources.

Bypassing the Batch Queue

Although users have direct access to compute nodes via ssh please do not abuse this by running jobs outside the batch queue. If we find jobs running outside the batch queue we will kill them and may lock your account.

Running on the Frontend

We do not allow long running jobs on the frontend node[s]. We have specifically designated which nodes should be used for computing and they are all in the batch queue. Although we do allow compilation on the frontend node you are more than welcome to use qlogin to run interactive jobs for compilation on compute nodes. If we see any long-running jobs on the frontend node we will kill them and may lock your account.

Priorities

By default we do not implement priority policies. If the owners of the clusters wish we can implement ownership-based policies where each owner will get a pre-defined priority based on their percent ownership.
