How do I get software installed on a cluster?

Up to Table of Contents

This document describes how to get a custom software package installed on a CSE-managed cluster

Check to see if it is already installed

Have you checked to see if it is already installed? If the package is not in /usr it may already be installed in /share/apps.

Requesting new software

Once you have determined that the software you need is not installed on the cluster you should send your request to help@cse.ucdavis.edu. Be sure to answer/provide all of the following in your request:

  • What is the name of the software?
  • What version should be installed?
  • If the software is open source or can be downloaded from the internet; what is the URL for the software's website? If not, please provide a way for us to get the software (ie electronic download or a hard-copy).
  • If the software requires a license we will need the license number or file.
  • Does this software need to be installed on all compute nodes or just the frontend?
